Rather, they are middle constructions and identify various empirical diagnostics to distinguish between passive and middles. Another aspect of this study concerns topic constructions.
Thai topics are categorized into two types; topicalization and left-dislocation topics Ekniyom. This can be sub-categorized in Thai topics into overtly-marked topics and unmarked topics. Clearly, these that these two sub-categories of Thai topics are syntactically distinct.
This study will provide various empirical diagnostics to distinguish between overtly-marked topics and unmarked topics in Thai. To date, this syntactic subcategorization of Thai topic has yet to be proposed. Kanokwanwalai Inhongsa.
We propose that these structures are not concealed passives pace SinlapasanThonglor Rather, we propose that these are middle constructions and identify various empirical diagnostics to distinguish between passive and middles. To our knowledge, this is the first time that a middle construction has been proposed for Thai.

In this text we will compare the benzac 5 gel galderma of dispositional middles in English and Polish, with some supplementation with the material coming from Czech and Russian, in order to establish the position of such constructions in the analyzed languages.
In spite of many superficial similarities that may be observed between dispositional middles in English and in Slavic, we will argue that the comprehensive outlook upon the data shows clearly that the respective positions of dispositional middles in the systems of English and Polish are very different.
English dispositional middles possess distinct grammatical structures that single them out from among other intransitive verbs in the language. Patrick M Murphy. Passive constructions are perhaps the most widely studied grammatical phenomena within generative grammar. Typological studies describe the wide variety of features of passive constructions cross-linguistically, and both typological and acquisition studies offer insight into the relative markedness of these constructions.
This is accomplished by proposing a set of type definitions, characterizing both the relatively unmarked and relatively marked features of passive constructions. To that end, preference principles in the construction of passive type matrices in HPSG are introduced: a metagrammar como utilizar benzac by Universal Grammar describing the markedness of each type with respect to its supertype.
The resulting system models a passive prototype within HPSG. Borana Lushaj. The present thesis investigates the middle generic construction MGC in Albanian. Just like in many of the IE languages, MGC is parasitic on non-active morphology Condoravdi ; Lekakou, and it has been defined as denoting a property of a grammatical subject. This interpretation is not satisfactory given that many types of sentences express a property of the grammatical subject, but not all of them are MGCs. Moreover, the syntactic manifestation of a middle generic interpretation is also diverse cross-linguistically.
Therefore relying only on the semantic properties of the middle generic construction does not encompass the variety with which it is manifested in natural languages. The goal of this thesis is to study MGCs in Albanian as is found in natural language, in the hope that surveying its realization in this language can contribute to a better understanding of its interpretation. For this purpose, a corpus of about words has been created, consisting of written texts of various genres, from fiction to political essays and includes diverse Albanian contemporary authors, as well as two translations into Albanian of English and Portuguese books.
In this thesis I propose that the core characteristic that needs to be realized in order to obtain a middle interpretation is the modality-of-ability reading in the presence of a generic agent-role.
Moreover, it seems that mainly verbs of cognition and perception can produce an ability reading in a non-modified i. At a finer level of detail, even within the group of cognition and perception verbs, there are verbs which do not allow for a middle interpretation in their third person non-active imperfective forms.
The data suggests that the ability reading which I equate with the middle interpretation in non-modified middles tends to be realized for those verbs which imply a process in their meaning.
In general, the structural complexity of sentences where verbs can produce this modality of ability reading in Albanian suggests that this reading is due to the semantic properties of the verb, and grammatical and discourse changes that occur when the verb is used in the nonactive form.

She not only taught me about linguistics, she also taught me about life. I am also thankful to my committee, Asst. Nuntana Wongthai, who taught semantics to me and it was an impressive class.
Finally, I am thankful to my external examiner, Dr. Natchanan Natpratan for her helpful comments and questions.
